AQUA - PROJECT FOR A CONTEMPORARY ART MUSEUM
Contest: Reuse the Roman Ruin
designed in collaboration with: Alessia Reali, Valeria Verzili and Irene dell'Orco

Inspired by the water path into the Serino aqueduct, from its source until the Piscina Mirabilis, AQUA is composed of an elliptical raised walkway that gently climbs the space and leads the visitors through the fascinating underground Roman ruin. As if they were water, the visitors can access the reservoir, freely explore the interior space at the ground level, and take the walkway to perceive the whole remains from diverse perspectives and various heights. Nowadays, the role of the new generation of architects and designers is not to build new structures but to cohabit the existent. We should look at the past, and reinterpret it to design future scenarios. Citing Ovid’s words in his Metamorphoses: “omnia mutantur, nihil interit” – “everything changes, nothing perishes.”
